Acrobatics for Dancers

Acro dance is a style of dance that combines classical dance technique with precision acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, its unique choreography, which seamlessly blends dance and acrobatics, and its use of acrobatics in a dance context.

We currently are offering 4 levels of Acro.

 Pre Acro 

 

Skills of focus include: Bridge, L handstand, Pre cartwheel, cartwheel (Right and Left), Pre-Round Off, Skipping, Forward pike roll, Bridge, V-Sit, Handstand away from the wall, Square Hip Split exercise, Tuck jumps, Rock and roll from standing to standing. 

Beginning Acro

Students at this level should be able to demonstrate a cartwheel on both sides as well as a round off. Skills of focus include: Splits, Bridge with kicks (right and left), Backbend without a spot, Bridge kickover, Handstand to forward roll, One-handed cartwheel, Backward roll, V-sit for 30 seconds, Plank Hold for 40 seconds, Tuck headstand, Bridge with straight arms and legs, Dive roll, Front Limber, Flying cart wheel.

Intermediate Acro

Students in this class should be able to demonstrate most skills listed for Tumbling IV, especially a backbend. Skills of focus include: Splits, Backbend to recovery, Handstand balance for 3 seconds, Bridge kickover, Headstand balance for 10 seconds, V-Sit hold for 40 seconds, Plank hold for 1 minute, Straddle press to Handstand, Round off, Dive cartwheel, Front or Back walkover, and aerial. 

Advanced Acro

 

Students should be able to demonstrate skills listed from Levels I-V, particularly the kickover. Students at this level will be assessed on the following skills at the end of the year: Front walkover, Back walkover, Front Handspring, Standing Back Handspring, Side aerial, Splits, Back Arabian, Dive Front walkover, Valdez, Back roll to Handstand.
